Why your business is missing from AI answers, and how to fix it

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity for the best clinic, lawyer or supplier in your city. If they name three competitors and not you, the reason usually sits in what they can read about you. That can be changed.

What it looks like

  • Assistants name your competitors when asked for a business like yours
  • They describe you with old prices, a former address or services you dropped
  • They know your name but not what you do, or mix you up with another business
  • You appear in English answers but not in French or Arabic ones, or the reverse
  • Your analytics shows no visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini
  • Google shows an AI Overview for your main service, and your site is not among its sources

The usual causes, most frequent first

CauseWhat we usually find
Too few outside sourcesNo mentions on the directories, review sites, press and comparison pages that assistants read in your field
Facts hidden or missing on your siteNo page per service or location, no prices or ranges, key details only in images or behind scripts
ContradictionsDifferent names, addresses, hours or services across your site, Google Business Profile, directories and social profiles
Weak search rankingsAssistants that search before answering pick from the top results, and you are not there
Crawlers turned awayA robots.txt rule, a firewall or a CDN setting that blocks AI crawlers, sometimes by default
A language gapYour content is in one language while buyers ask in another

How we diagnose it in the first two weeks

  1. List the questions

The questions that lead to a purchase in your market, in each language you sell in.

  2. Ask the assistants

Each question goes to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google’s AI features, and the answers are logged: who is named, who is cited, what is said about you.

  3. Find their sources

Which sites the assistants cite for those questions, and whether you appear on any of them.

  4. Check access

Robots.txt, firewall and CDN rules, server logs for AI crawler visits, and how your pages read with scripts turned off.

  5. Check consistency

Name, address, phone, hours and services compared across every listing we can find.

What we fix first

What is inside your control, because it moves fastest. Crawler access set on purpose. Facts stated plainly on your own pages: one page per service and location, prices or ranges, areas served, who does the work. Listings corrected so that every source says the same thing. Structured data, so machines read each page without guessing.

Then the outside sources: reviews, directory listings, press mentions and the comparison pages assistants already cite in your field. That work is slower and runs month after month.

Throughout, AI referral visits are tracked in our SEO and AI visibility tracking and followed through to the form, the call and the booking, so you see whether being named brings business.

Frequently asked questions

Is this different from SEO?

It overlaps. Many assistants start from search results, so SEO still counts. On top of that come clear facts, consistent listings and outside mentions. Our GEO and SEO comparison goes through the differences.

How long does it take?

Fixes to your site and listings can show in answers within weeks, once the assistants reread the pages. Outside mentions build over months. The monthly report shows which is which.

Should we block AI crawlers?

If you want to appear in answers, blocking the crawlers that feed them works against you. Some businesses block crawlers used for training and allow those used for search. We go through each one with you.

An assistant says something false about us. What can we do?

Find where it comes from: usually an old listing, an outdated page or an article elsewhere. Correct the source, state the right fact clearly on your own site, and check again after the next crawl.

Do AI visits matter if there are so few?

Count them and follow them to the lead before deciding. People who arrive from an answer have often already compared, so judge them on leads and bookings.
