Pricing guide
How much does GEO (generative engine optimization) cost?
GEO is new enough that two agencies can sell completely different things under the same name. This guide shows what the work involves, what moves the price, and what to ask before you sign.
Why GEO quotes are hard to compare
Ask three agencies for GEO and you may get three different products: a dashboard that tracks where ChatGPT mentions you, a rewrite of your pages, or PR to get you named on the sites assistants read. All three are part of the job. A quote may cover one.
Much of the work overlaps with SEO. Assistants often start from a search index, so a site that is slow, thin or badly structured struggles in both. If you already pay for SEO, the GEO part of the scope is what comes on top: the questions tracked, the answer-first rewriting, the entity work and the tracking of visits from assistants.
What changes the price of GEO
| Factor | Why it changes the cost |
|---|---|
| Questions tracked | Each buyer question is put to each assistant and logged every month. More services and more ways of asking mean more to track and more pages to fix. |
| Assistants | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Claude and Google’s AI Overviews each answer differently. Tracking all of them costs more than tracking the ones your buyers use. |
| Languages | An assistant asked in French, Arabic or English can name different businesses. Each language needs its own baseline and its own copy. |
| Locations | “Best dental clinic near me” gets a different answer in each city you serve, so each city is its own set of questions. |
| State of your pages | Pages that bury prices, places and hours in marketing copy need rewriting before an assistant can quote them. |
| Consistency of your listings | Your name, address and services must match across your site, Google Business Profile, directories and social profiles. Messy listings take longer to clean. |
| Mentions on other sites | Earning a place in the articles and lists assistants cite takes digital PR. It is the slowest and most labour-heavy line. |
How GEO is usually sold
Audit as a project
A one-off baseline: the questions, each assistant’s answers, what is said about you, and a ranked fix list. Useful on its own if your team can carry out the fixes.
Monthly retainer
Tracking, rewriting, listing work and outreach every month, reported against the baseline. Answers change as their sources change, so the work is ongoing.
Add-on to SEO
When an agency already runs your SEO, GEO can be priced as extra scope on top. Ask exactly which tasks are added.
Monitoring only
A tool or service that reports where you appear, with no work to change it. It gives you a baseline. On its own, it moves nothing.
What a small, growing and multi-location business usually needs
| Business | Typical scope |
|---|---|
| One location, one language | A short list of buyer questions, the main assistants, answer-first rewrites of your key pages, organisation and service structured data, consistent listings, and tracking of AI referrals. |
| Growing, several services or languages | Questions per service and per language, more assistants, a crawler policy and an llms.txt file where useful, regular rewriting and a steady flow of outside mentions. |
| Multi-location or network | Questions per city, one consistent identity across every branch listing, location pages that state each site’s own facts, and reporting by location. |
What every GEO quote and monthly report should show
The quote lines come first, then the report lines.
- The questions, assistants and languages tracked, listed by name
- The pages to be rewritten, and how many each month
- Listing, structured data and crawler work, each named
- Outreach or PR work, with what counts as a mention
- Presence in answers and citations, per assistant and language, against the baseline
- Wrong facts found in answers, and what was done about each
- Visits from AI assistants, followed through to leads and bookings in our tracking
Red flags in GEO offers
GEO attracts the same shortcuts SEO did, sold under newer words. Be wary of:
- Guaranteed mentions or citations in ChatGPT, Gemini or AI Overviews. The models decide, and nobody can promise their output.
- An “AI visibility score” with no published method. Ask how it is calculated and which questions it uses.
- Mass-produced AI-written pages aimed at assistants. A thin page is as easy for a model to ignore as for a person.
- A hidden file, prompt or code snippet that will “make AI recommend you”.
- Reports full of answer screenshots, with no visits, leads or bookings.
What we need to send you a fixed quote
Your market
The services you sell, the cities and languages, and the competitors you lose deals to.
The questions you hear
What buyers ask your team on the phone or on WhatsApp. They usually ask an assistant the same things.
Your site and listings
The website, your Google Business Profile and main directory listings, plus Search Console access if you have it.
A fixed quote
A price for a written scope of questions, assistants, languages and monthly work. It stays fixed for that scope.
Frequently asked questions
Is GEO more expensive than SEO?
Not necessarily. Much of GEO is SEO work done with answers in mind, so the two are often priced together. The GEO-specific lines are answer tracking, answer-first rewriting, entity work and AI referral tracking. Our SEO pricing guide covers the rest.
Can we buy GEO without SEO?
You can, if your site is already fast, well structured and indexed. If it is not, assistants have little to work with, and the first months of GEO turn into SEO work under another name. The audit shows which case you are in.
How do you measure GEO results?
Against a baseline: which tracked questions name you, which cite your pages, whether what is said is true, and how many visits and leads arrive from assistants. The method is the one described on our GEO service page.
When will we see a change?
Changes to your own site and listings can show in answers within weeks, once the assistants re-read the pages. Outside mentions build over months. The monthly report keeps the two apart.
