Hospitality
Digital marketing for hotels, restaurants and tourism
A guest finds a hotel on a booking platform, checks it on Google Maps, reads the latest reviews and sometimes books direct if the price and the site make it easy. Every booking you win back keeps the commission in your pocket.
How guests choose where to stay and eat
For hotels, the booking platforms are where comparison happens: price, location, rating, photos. Then many guests open Google to check the hotel itself, its map listing, its own site and its recent reviews. That second look is your chance at a direct booking.
For restaurants the decision is close and quick. “Restaurant near me”, “brunch Hydra”, a friend’s story on Instagram. Photos of real dishes, a menu with prices, hours that are true today and a way to reserve settle it.
Events and groups sell like a business deal: weddings, seminars, banquets, tour groups. A request with a date, a number of guests and a budget, then a quote, a visit and a deposit. One of these is worth more than many single bookings, and in many venues it is answered last.
Where each channel fits
| Channel | What it does well | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Booking platforms | Reach and trust, especially with first-time guests | Commission on every booking, and the guest relationship stays with them |
| Google Maps and hotel search | The second look before booking, and direct traffic | Rates, hours and photos that drift out of date |
| Instagram and TikTok | Discovery, especially for restaurants and experiences | Reach that never turns into a booking |
| Email and WhatsApp to past guests | Repeat stays with no commission | Consent, and how often you write |

Traps in hospitality marketing
- Paying for ads that send guests to your site, who then book on a platform
- A higher rate on your own site than on the platforms
- Menus, hours and photos on the map from three seasons ago
- Bad reviews left unanswered, or answered in anger
- Event requests answered after two days
- Stock photos of rooms and dishes that guests will not recognise on arrival
Frequently asked questions
Should we stop using booking platforms?
No. They bring guests who would never find you otherwise. The aim is balance: let them bring first-time guests, then win the second stay and every guest who searches for you by name.
Can we offer a lower price on our own site?
It depends on your contracts and your country’s rules. Many hotels keep the price equal and add an advantage for booking direct, such as breakfast or a late check-out. Read your platform contracts first.
What matters most for a restaurant online?
An accurate Google listing, real photos, the menu with prices, a way to reserve and recent reviews with your replies. Then Instagram, to give people a reason to come this week.
Do you work with tour operators and travel agencies?
Yes. Their sale is a considered purchase: trip pages with full itineraries and prices, enquiry forms with dates and group size, WhatsApp follow-up, and peaks around holidays and seasons that set the ad calendar.
How do you measure tourism marketing?
In bookings and revenue by channel, after commission, plus event enquiries won. Reach and followers count only when they lead to those.
